What the fuck do you want me to do, Archer? I can't predict the floods. I'm not going to hurt him unaffected. I'm fine never seeing or talking to him again.
With the exception of the Fears, Kirei has not tortured, maimed, murdered, or done anything else in that vein to anyone since he came. Which I know because I’ve been watching him closely ever since he arrived. Even with inhibitions lowered, the only person he harmed before you set fire to the chapel was me, and that was because I demanded that he fight me.
I understand you were influenced by the flood, but it doesn’t change the fact that you have been entertaining these thoughts of revenge against him when plenty of others did just as much harm or worse during that event.
Kirei manages his proclivities far better than many who are less fucked up that he is, and while I certainly will not defend anything he has done, the double standard is quite tiresome.
So I am verifying now that the matter is done with.
Next time we talk, it should be over something more positive.
I understand Florian has taken something of a liking to you, and every time I see him, I am concerned a strong wind might blow him over. So perhaps we can do something about that.
I know. The issue…definitely came up during the flood.
[ A pause. ]
I suspect it isn’t in your nature to want to accept payment or any sort of recompense for the things you do for others - and truthfully, it isn’t my preference either. But I think, in his case, if there are things he wants to do to…balance his internal ledger, so to speak…I believe you should allow it.
He’s offered me payment for magic lessons, for example - which I don’t need and certainly would not have asked for. But that is our arrangement, presently, since I think it makes him feel more comfortable.
So if he does try to do things like that for you, I would accept it. It may even be good for him, doing things like that for others.
It's not, but I get where that instinct comes from. I used to do work when I was a kid, and I couldn't out myself for what I was, and I needed food.
And even here, I learned that balance shit very quickly with Sweeney. I'm not going to ask for anything but I wouldn't insult him by turning him down if he insists.
I’ll keep you appraised of things on my end where he’s concerned - and perhaps if he gets far enough with his lessons, he can start to do a little physical training with you.
I already promised him I wouldn't share anything he's told me in confidence - and there was a lot of that during the flood - so I would prefer not to make a liar of myself, even incidentally.
So I think we should both be content with what we know for now and use our best judgment where he's concerned.

I’ll remember for the future that you’re allowed be fucked up on your own time but the rest of us aren’t.

Re: Post-flood
I adore the little fuckhead. Johann looks after him pretty well, doesn't he? But I think whatever magic he has is eating away at him.
Re: Post-flood
There are other things that eat at him, though.
He did not have anyone to look after him for a very long time so anything we can do to support him will be helpful, I believe.

Re: Post-flood
How's he doing with magic lessons?
Re: Post-flood
There is a limit to what we can explore because of cap on his abilities, but he has a great deal of raw power and natural talent.
The only issue I’ve run into is he becomes very self-conscious when he doesn’t…immediately succeed.
But I expect that will resolve itself over time.
