He barks a laugh. "My birthday was three days ago if you feel like writing one up for it."

“Well. Happy birthday.” He chuckles. How does someone even keep track of their birthday? He can vaguely pin his to a season, and the dates are all wrong here.

“You might be surprised. Or upset. I had a few of those earlier.”

[ukan]

A dismissive wave of his hand. "I enjoy being surprised and upset more than you probably realize."

“In that case, I might have to actually write something. Alucard will die of shock.” He chuckles, mood lightening now that he knows he’ll be back to normal soon.

“Would it be rude to ask how old you turned?”

[ukan]

He waves a hand, I don't mind. "I was twenty-nine. Almost thirty. Actually, no one under nineteen or twenty can survive the change, so we're all adults when we turn."

He gives a snort of a laugh.

"How old you just turned. Three days ago."

[ukan]

"Oh." You know how many times people have asked about his birthday in the last ten years? None. "Uh, fifty-two."

A pause as he thinks about how old that feels. "Shit."

[atowncalledtreffy]

"Shit." Trevor agrees, with newfound appreciation. Lark's old enough to be his father.

[ukan]

"I'd like to think I'm well-preserved but my joints pop when I get up in the morning." It's not fun, Trevor. "How old are you?"

[atowncalledtreffy]

Well, he should have expected this question.

"Uh. Well. I think probably....Somewhere between twenty-two and twenty-four."

[ukan]

"Shit," he says again, feeling old all over again. He shouldn't, but it isn't helped by, "The average wolf lives five to ten years after being turned. I'm ancient for lycanthropes. Now I feel old for a human, too."

He nods, a little weary now.

"You'd probably be dead in my world, too. Human or lycanthrope."

[ukan]

He shrugs. "It's how things go. I'm glad to still be alive. I'm glad I graduated so I could keep living. But that doesn't make life more certain. I feel good about how I live my life."

He doesn't let on anything, face a perfect stone mask.

"At 52, I should hope you like living."

[ukan]

"How is it at 23?" A wry smile, offering him a way to deflect. "I was an asshole at 23. Alcoholic, just starting out in my career and sure I already knew more than any senior partner."

[atowncalledtreffy]

He shrugs back, wavering a hand.

"I'm not alive anymore, so it's kind of a dead point? It's all right. Better than undeath, I'd imagine."

[ukan]

"Well, I'm aiming to make things better than 'at least it's not undeath'. We'll see how that goes."

[atowncalledtreffy]

He snorts. Unsure if he wants to lay into that conversation yet without sufficient beer supplies.

[ukan]

"Well, that covers it for things I needed to ask you. Anything I missed?"

[atowncalledtreffy]

Trevor shrugs. Gives him a knowing look.

"If there is, I'm sure you'll come find me."

[ukan]

"Oh I will. And when I'm bored, and when I can't sleep, and when I want an opinion on dinner, and when I have beer for you." A smirk. "You'll see plenty of me, Belmont."

He squints at Lark, and then gives him the finger.

"Old man."
