"I might've." He argues, with a grin. "It had my crest, it needed your magic to open. Whatever future descendants - or hell, future ancestors - show up here, they're not getting my whip. That goes to Simon and whatever other brats come after him."

"Teach me to use it," she says suddenly, propping herself up on an elbow.

He tilts his head, giving Sypha a curious look back.

"Now why would you want to know how to sling around a whip when you've got magic? Yours has more range, more power, you don't need to remember to take it with you on pee breaks.."

"Because Simon is going to wield it. And my magic. I want to see what they can do together."

Trevor snorts, delighting in the idea of it.

"Fuck, he's going to be a brilliant kid. All right - later on, we'll start practicing. Figure out how to mix both in without running into each other."

"He's going to be a holy terror," says Sypha, enjoying the new phrase she picked up recently. "I can't wait."

"Holy terror." He repeats under his breath, imagining it with a grin as he pushes Sypha's hair back away from her face.

"Come to think of it, there's probably some texts in the Hold about lighting the whip on fire. It's blessed, so it can't catch it, because it tends to explode on contact with demons. Wonder if we can try that together.."

God, he's grinning at the idea.

"Fire with your whip... and maybe lightning with Adrian's sword, once we go home."

"Adrian's gonna be living forever. We can't wrestle his sword away from him. Plus the fucking thing's like six feet long. No grown human's capable of swinging it with any accuracy."

"Have you tried?" she asks, very sure he has.

An awkward shrug, the best he can manage while holding Sypha on top of him.

"Weeeell, I mean. Weapons are kind of my thing. Plus I wanted to see if I could get it to telepathically respond to me the way it does him."

She chuckles. "I wish I'd seen you trying."

"Nooo, you don't." He professes, smiling warmly. "I almost took my own head off just trying to get it out of its scabbard."

That gets a slightly smothered giggle, and then she just rests her head on his chest for a moment.

"Soon. We'll see him again soon."

He curls his arm around her back, exhaling softly, accidentally ruffling Sypha's bangs as he does so.

"Yeah. At least we'll always know where he is. That castle's hard to miss."

"We don't let him retreat again, when we get there."

"I know a thing or two about trapping vampires." He jokes, quiet.
